Hi all,
[Using ArchLinux 64]
Could someone with either of these hardware settings please paste me thier settings in xorg.conf? Much obliged.
NVIDIA 8800 GTX
LCD via DVI: Samsung SyncMaster 226CW
Mouse: Wireless USB Logitech MX Revolution
Keyboard: Wired USB Logitech Wave Keyboard
On another note... has ArchLinux any tools to help in setting xorg.conf correctly, I used 'hwd' & then 'nvidia-xconfig' to aid me in this but I'm still stuck in getting kdemod started.
I get:
(II) Setting vga for screen 0.
(**) NVIDIA(0): Depth 24, (--) framebuffer bpp 32
(==) NVIDIA(0): RGB weight 888
(==) NVIDIA(0): Default visual is TrueColor
(==) NVIDIA(0): Using gamma correction (1.0, 1.0, 1.0)
(**) NVIDIA(0): Option "ConnectedMonitor" "DFP"
(**) NVIDIA(0): Option "RenderAccel" "True"
(**) NVIDIA(0): Enabling RENDER acceleration
(**) NVIDIA(0): ConnectedMonitor string: "DFP"
(II) NVIDIA(0): Support for GLX with the Damage and Composite X extensions is
(II) NVIDIA(0): enabled.
(EE) NVIDIA(0): Failed to load the NVIDIA kernel module!
(EE) NVIDIA(0): *** Aborting ***
(II) UnloadModule: "nvidia"
(II) UnloadModule: "wfb"
(II) UnloadModule: "fb"
(EE) Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration.
Fatal server error:
no screens found
It would be nice if we could search through a db/archive for people who uploaded thier hardware settings & known to be either optermised or working correctly with certain hardware (even if it's just general settings i.e. mouse works, but not the extra buttons) & then we can just import then into our settings
TIA

First question, have you installed the nvidia driver? (pacman -S nvidia)
Second question, have you had a kernel update recently and if so have you re-booted?
Third question, can you post the contents of your xorg.conf?
EDIT: If you know the details of your hardware (monitor refresh rates etc) you can use xorgconfig to set up xorg, this is basically a text based configuration tool that asks you a load of questions about your hardware and produces an appropriate xorg.conf. Alternatively you can use 'X -configure' to probe your hardware and make a 'best-guess' xorg.conf similar to using hwd

Hi,
Solved by adding
Modeline "1680x1050_60.00" 147.14 1680 1784 1968 2256 1050 1051 1054 1087 -HSync +Vsync
In order to get the correct Modeline
$ gtf 1680 1050 60
@ghostHack
1- pacman -S nvidia-utils was used instead.
2- Latest in Arch core repo & rebooted
3- Sure below.
But it would still be nice if there was some kind of way to have these settings referenced in order to make sure they are correct... as I'm not too sure if my settings are optimum.
Any feedback on the mouse & keyboard entries that people with the same devices are using?
