I extracted the contents of the iso to an extra ext2 partition and modified grub as instruced here

however I should not have specified root=
it worked fine when i omited the root paremeter ... i think this has to do with the new paths to drives note that root=/dev/disk/by-id/and my drive id also did not work
actually it seems my partition was sda1 .... and not hda1 as arch detected it... strange
