4G/4G with MMU utilization in arch

Can mmu and the arch 2.6.7 kernel be patched to utilize 4G/4G with highmem to extend the memory addressing?

Scuttlebutt on the internet says greater than 1GB is best for performance.

I have no other info but it sounds promising for large DVD compressed Live discs.
