definately midnight commander (pacman -S mc)
i used 3 distros so far and always the 1st application i launch is mc ^^

emacs' version control system is cvs.

But emacs-git lets you use git easily from emacs: http://tsgates.cafe24.com/git/git-emacs.html

edit: it isn't a package though...
