Epson Stylus D120 printing slowly

Didn't know in what forum to put this, I'll try my luck in here.

I bought a new printer yesterday, Epson Stylus D120. It got a rating of "perfectly" for the gutenberg drivers and thus I thought it would be a good purchase. Now the printing quality itself is pretty decent but the printer is terribly slow. Epson says this printer can do up to 37 pages per minute. I wouldn't even expect that much, but at the moment all the printer can do are about 2 pages per minute and that's too slow.

I am using Gutenprint 5.0.2 and CUPS 1.3.7. I also built the current beta of Gutenprint 5.2 with no effect. What can I do to increase speed?

edit: I was too fast with choosing the forum, now I see this should be in the Workstation part, can someone move it?
