Re: fluxbox-devel 0.9.9 question

I'm glad.  What intrigues me is why only some of us are having this problem.  I do, as I've said elsewhere in this 5 page thread,[1]  consider it an Arch problem as, even with the default slit autohide at false no other distro seems to have it.

Looking at the PKGBUILD, I see nothing weird.  (I am not a programmer however, so there might be some obscure thing somewhere).

Anyway, hopefully, this quick fix, whether it's a band-aid approach or not, will help a few people.

Let me publicly thank beniro and thegnu here, since their posts showed me where to start looking.

[1]  Edited a minute later--I see that my post brings it up to 6 pages.  smile

Re: fluxbox-devel 0.9.9 question

i had a good yarn with fluxgen the main fluxbox developer about this on IRC last night.  I have sent him a debug report so if it is something at the fluxbox end (tho as you said scottro it seems arch specific) then they are aware of it.  it does seem odd tho - i compiled my own fluxbox from cvs and installed it /opt, not using thePKGBUILD stuff yet as i have not had time to learn about it, but i still have the issue.

could it be an xorg/xfree thing?  cos it only started for me yesterday.  i had the same cvs version running before and after i did a sysupgrade and xorg was one of the main changes.  i know it started before i installed glibc tho (cos i saw other people with probs with that) - so that rules that out

dunno if that helps

Re: fluxbox-devel 0.9.9 question

Shouldn't be xorg, because I'm running it on other boxes (Slack and FreeBSD) with xorg.

As I said either on this thread or the other, the big problem for the developer is that he can't reproduce it.  I'm just lucky I guess.  smile

Re: fluxbox-devel 0.9.9 question

I built my box using the AMLUG live-cd. I turns out to be 0.7 when install with udev, xorg, etc. I went and got fluxbox-cvs from the fluxbox.org. Compiled it myself and it works great.

Re: fluxbox-devel 0.9.9 question

Hey Dibble (may I call you Dibble?) what has happened to vectorlinux.com?

Anyway, back to fluxbox--Tobias has made a new build that fixes the problem.  However, for those that don't want to autohide the slit, it's still an issue.  (The new version's default init autohides it.)

He's also got a box where he can reproduce the problem, so hopefully a solution will be coming soon.  (Heh, easy for me to say.)

Re: fluxbox-devel 0.9.9 question

scottro - it's back up now - dunno what the issue was

i have again been chatting to the main fluxbox developer, elusive and busy fellow that he is, and he has had me do some tests etc on my system to see what the crash is all about.  so, as far as i can tell, as it is both a cvs and 0.9.9 issue the arch package maintainer is not at fault.  not to suggest the fluxbox code is but it seems something is going wonky!

Re: fluxbox-devel 0.9.9 question

Interesting. (BTW, glad Vector is back up)

I've only had ~that~ problem on Arch, however, on some distros, the older version--0.1.14 won't compile, while 0.9.9 does (eg Fedora).  Actually, last night, playing around, went to compile the tarball from fluxbox's site and it died on Arch, which hasn't happened before.

Anyway it's interesting that you've found it to be a general fluxbox problem, since I only had the issue with fluxbox in the Arch package.

It works.

No, this is not the line in init, its something else when doing a fresh install. The solution is to use the 0.9.8 or 0.1.14 init file.
