Packages for macbook.

I was wondering how many of Arch users has macbook. It's quite popular laptop so I've thought about special package pack only for macbooks (compilation flags + some patches). Kernel and bunch of every day use apps.
What do you think?

Re: Packages for macbook.

This would be wonderful, please keep us up to date.  I have a 13.3" Macbook.  I love it, but these packages would be very helpful.

Re: Packages for macbook.

Hey peeps!

After a couple of days and a million billion kernel compiles, I've been able to create a lean, mean kernel for the 3rd generation MacBook. Everything works except for iSight (because my config doesn't include V4L, add it yourself if you want it) and possibly the remote (which I didn't test). Have at it: kernel26macbook3g.tar.bz2

It uses the latest SVN checkout from mactel-linux, plus a patch for the keyboard that I found in some dark corner of the interweb and had to butcher into working order with 2.6.24.1. Anyone will be able to tell this PKGBUILD is ugly and potentially dangerous (calls scripts from the src dir, etc), so I'm not uploading it to the AUR. If anyone would like to do the honours (and maintain it), be my guest.

I didn't compile AppleSMC into the kernel because sometimes it takes five centuries to load. My dirty workaround for this was putting its modprobe command in the pommed-svn daemon launcher (hey, I said it was dirty) and loading pommed on the background. In fact, to further speed things along, I've added the modprobes for appletouch and usbhid in this daemon as well, because they need to be called in this order and with a small delay between each other. After these, boot time seems faster than OSX.

Ah, also take notice that mkinitcpio is not used with this kernel. With some work you'll even be able to turn off mod_autoload in rc.conf.

I also made an ndiswrapper package to go with it: ndiswrapper-macbook.tar.bz2

Enjoy! Ask any questions here and I will answer them ASAP.

Re: Packages for macbook.

Well, I've make PKGBUILD for kernel (2.6.25.2) + madwifi module, and it's quite usable, but there's no visible advantage. So I've drop that idea. Everything works fine with default Arch packages.

kernel : http://wit.edu.pl/~husiatyn/pkg_ARCH/kernel26-macbook/
madwifi : http://wit.edu.pl/~husiatyn/pkg_ARCH/madwifi-macbook/
