Latex unicode support

Hello

Im not able to enable unicode support in latex. I try to import the ucs package in latex, but it is not installed. On other distros I can install latex-ucs or similar, but I cant find anything similar in arch or aur. Does anyone know what it is called, or if it there at all?

Thanks,

Henrik

Re: Latex unicode support

ftp://tug.ctan.org/pub/tex-archive/macr … de/INSTALL

Tells you how to install manually. I will try to make a pkgbuild of this over the weekend though.

Re: Latex unicode support

Well I went on and made one myself...

And when I uploaded to the AUR, I found out you did it before me. No harm done... I had to learn to make them sometime.

Now what ?

Min is under latex-unicode

Thanks

Well, it wasn't me. But yes, it already did exist. I hadn't checked myself when I responded that it definitely wasn't uploaded.

Too be honest though, it's not ideal to have duplicates in the AUR. It's good that you attempted it, but I think you ought to remove it now that you know it already exists.

You still had fun learning about PKGBUILDs though, right? wink

Re: Latex unicode support

Why searching for latex in aur does not return latex-unicode neither latex-ucs? Am I looking for the wrong package name?

Re: Latex unicode support

By enabling unicode, do you mean what you do with \usepackage[utf8]{inputenc}? If so, it is included in texlive from community.

Re: Latex unicode support

My group is working with tetex. Do you know if texlive is compatible with tetex code?

Absolutely, latex is latex, it's just another (and an actively developed) implementation.

Re: Latex unicode support

I started using xetex which is part of texlive with the fontspec package. Unicode, and all the various font faces and extensions by using Opentype become available. Considering the swatches, different ligatures, alternate glyphs etc. now available in opentype, I thinks it's the way to go. It depends, of course, on your needs and tastes.
