Get the latest Quicktime

Hi there,

I just recently ran into a problem on apple.com/trailers. Most movies w/o HD-vids told me to "Get the latest Quicktime".
I googled a while but couldn't find a working solution. However the problem can be easily fixed. Just open ".mozilla/firefox/pluginreg.dat" and search for the line that reads "QuickTime Plug-in 6.0 / 7:$" and change it to "QuickTime Plug-in 7:$". apple.com/trailers is working again....
I hope this little fix does not break compatibility with other sites, but so far everything works fine.

Have fun,
Pavel

Re: Get the latest Quicktime

And what about Opera with opera-mplayer-plugin from AUR? It's the same problem.

Maybe there is a new turret, or some walls have moved. Or perhaps someone has temporarily removed the floor under your bed."

Re: Get the latest Quicktime

You need the latest mplayer-plugin from their CVS. The current release doesn't work.

Unfortunately just changing the version-numbers in opera6.ini does not work. As a workaround you could open the source of the page. The full URL of the mov-file is always quite near the top of the source. If you paste this URL in your browser, mplayer-plugin will play it, or you could just download it.

Re: Get the latest Quicktime

Oh my what a disappointment. The topic title led me to believe Quicktime was open-sourced.

I need real, proper pen and paper for this.

Re: Get the latest Quicktime

Grr. Totem-plugin is the only thing that works with these.

Anyone know how to compile Totem without Gnome stuff? I might make a PKGBUILD and put it in the AUR...

Re: Get the latest Quicktime

This file will play the newer Quicktime movies. You can rebuild from ABS with only a couple of changes to the PKGBUILD:
