In my KDE 3.2.3 under Archlinux the font "Luxi Sans" looks a bit strange, with some lines wider than others etc. Nothing really bad, but annoying since I used it as my standard KDE-font and liked it. All other fonts look good, so I supposed it is not one of the general font problems, right?
Does anybody have the same problem or know how to fix it?
Thanks a lot, Frank

Can you post a screenshot?

Here are two screenshots:

2. Gentoo, KDE 3.2.2 - normal Luxi Sans
Thanks for any help, Frank

seems, that you run antialised under gentoo and not under arch
The impossible missions are the only ones which succeed.

If you mean the KDE Appearance - Fonts settings: The anti aliasing is checked there under Arch as well as under Gentoo.
maybe related?
He seems to have different letter sizes, so I don't think it's related.
But I have noticed now, that there are some (few) other fonts as well, that look strange... so it seems like it is indeed a more general font problem and I'll look into the "font-problem"-threads again and check the hints there.

Are you using KDM?
If yes, put this at the end of /opt/kde/share/config/kdm/Xresources:
Xft.dpi: 96
Xft.hinting: 1
Xft.hintstyle: hintmedium
I've taken it from XFCE4.
Be aware that the default KDE does not have dpi set to 96, I think it has 100+something. I have it 96 because it makes all the fonts (KDE & GTK) have the same sizes. They look great everywhere.
With that setting in KDM, I don't have to enable any antialias in KDE, it seems the settings are taken from KDM.

Well, I tried to install those MS fonts and when I run fc-cache -v, I get this error:
Fontconfig error: "local.conf", line 26: not well-formed (invalid token)
On that line in my local.conf file, I have:
<edit name"dpi" mode"assign"><double>96</double></edit>
The whole block is:
<match target="pattern">
<edit name"dpi" mode"assign"><double>96</double></edit>
</match>
Is this something to worry about?
Thanks!!!
