Set PCM volume

For some reason I can not set the PCM volume
When I tried to restart alsa I got this message

bash-3.2# /etc/rc.d/alsa restart
:: Saving ALSA Levels                                                    [DONE]
:: Restoring ALSA Levels [BUSY] /usr/sbin/alsactl: set_control:1403: Cannot write control '2:0:0:PCM Playback Volume:0' : Operation not permitted

Also, when trying to set the volume:

bash-3.2# amixer set PCM 85% unmute
amixer: Invalid command!

Could this be the reason why I have no sound from alsa?

Edit:
nevermind I fixed it.
Still got no sound though sad
