Access to #archlinux (IRC) thru CGI?

What about the CGI-script to access the #archlinux-channel thru CGI? I ainn't got the rights to access IRC, so I tried http://cgiirc.sourceforge.net/ and it works for me!
But irc.freenode.org is not reachable thru public CGI:IRC-pages. Might be interesting for arch?

Moritz

Re: Access to #archlinux (IRC) thru CGI?

personally i would say to not use those CGI based scripts...

Better would be just write a small PHP script, which takes not that much CPU time.
But in general the problem is that i don't think that people really want to access the irc over the website...

Ehrm, if that is your reasoning, consider these facts:

[_] You know what CGI actually means
[_] You are aware that PHPs interpreter is anything but the fastest available
[_] Using little boxes is cool

But in general the problem is that i don't think that people really want to access the irc over the website...

That was my first thought as well, but then I was really only speaking for myself. What if you're at work, where you simply only have web access? Or if you just want to drop into the chat without the installation of an IRC client, maybe when you're at a friend's computer or just too darn lazy? smile

It's probably not a must have, but if the maintainance can be kept low, it probably wouldn't hurt. *shrug*

Re: Access to #archlinux (IRC) thru CGI?

Yeah you're right: my problem is the firewall of my company... transparent proxies! :?
I could use it at home, but I'm not that often at home! So getting in contact with the maintainers is pretty hard, but I want to help them!
I've tried to get it work on my private webserver, (cgi is allowed) but the access to the irc-port is blocked
I'll try to get it onto my personal computer and access it via dyn-dns... but I would like to see it!!!

So do I.  If you can't get the maintainers on IRC then email them... that's what it's there for.
