How can I change Firefox's locale? My system locale has always been en_GB but Firefox is the one programme which runs in en_US. Can anyone help me switch Firefox to en_GB? I am running the new FF3 from extra.

How about installing the Quick Locale Switcher addon?
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1333
See if that works for you.

I suppose that's one way to do it. But shouldn't there be a config file somewhere I can edit to permanenly change the locale without the need for an add-on?

Actually you're right, I found what your looking for.
Go to Edit > Preferences > Content
There you will see "Languages" in bold and to the right you click "Choose..." and then select or add your language, it's there.

I think you are misunderstanding me (or maybe I am just confuse). I am looking for a way to change Firefox's locale. In every other programme I have running, the spellings follow Commonwealth English, but in Firefox, it is all US English. For example: Under Edit>Preferences>Content, "colours" is spelled "colors." Does anyone know a way to change this?

Install firefox-i18n and your browser should pick the language pack that matches the $LANG environment variable.

I uninstalled and reinstalled firefox with firefox-i18n. still no luck. Help>About Mozilla Firefox still shows "en-US." Any ideas?

Open up about:config and find this key:
general.useragent.locale
Change it to en_GB
