The newest kernel, fglrx and 64 GB RAM support

Hello!
I have bought new computer with 4 GB RAM, Intel E8200, ASUS P5K PRO and ATI RADEON HD3650 series and now I have got a bit problem. I must use 32-bit system but it always see only about 3,3 GB RAM. I decided to compile new kernel with 64 GB RAM support because it is annoying when I pay for something which I can't use. But when I installed the kernel and reboot the PC system frozen after X server start (I can see only black screen without anything, it isn't any cursor, wallpaper or kicker) and doesn't respond for any operation. In log I see only two errors:

(EE) fglrx(0): vm86() syscall generated signal 11.
(EE) fglrx(0): Failed to initialize ASIC in kernel.

I have compiled my own catalyst from abs but it didn't help.

Ohh, I almost forget add my xorg configuration file:

Re: The newest kernel, fglrx and 64 GB RAM support

Posting your Xorg log file would definatively help (it's in /var/log/) smile

Btw, afaik, 32bit supports a maximum of 3GB.

Re: The newest kernel, fglrx and 64 GB RAM support

PAE is a hack; it doesn't deal with the lack of address space as well as 64 bit mode.

The couple 32bit only applications can be run, linking against their own 32 bit libraries (via bin32-* packages). Or is there another reason why you need to run in 32bit mode?

It might also be useful to see a log (dmesg) of when you add the fglrx (or is it called catalyst) module.

Re: The newest kernel, fglrx and 64 GB RAM support

@kevin, standard 32-bit system has got addresses for 4 GB of memory. But at first addresses are allocate for graphic card memory and after this operation system start allocation for RAM. In the kernel exist a eventually for compile with bigmem support.

@vogt, I know about it smile I must use 32-bit because 64-bit and fglrx don't work... Rightly it work but I haven't got 3D accelerate on 64-bit sad

I looked dmesg and all was right... But what is meaning?

(EE) fglrx(0): Failed to initialize ASIC in kernel.

?

I forgot saying about one small thing: I tried whit 5 or 6 version of Catalyst and 4 kernels (2.6.22 - 2.6.25) and it still doesn't work tongue
