OpenOffice and List Styles

In OpenOffice.org, I prefer to use a specific bullet graphic and indentation settings with my lists.  But, in order to use them I must apply the desired settings to each and every list I create in my documents.  Is there any way to set my preferences as default?  And can it be done with all documents, or would I need to do this for each document I create?
