Hey There,
I've installed several packages from AUR such as skype, compiz-core, fusion-icon, virtualbox-ose, ies4linux, typespeed etc....
Why are these packages dropped ? I wonder the reason of AUR repos getting smaller instead of getting larger.. I don't want to create a flame but I just want to understand the behaviour and react as adopting packages etc..

What are you talking about? All those packages you named are in community.
EDIT: And there are on average 5 new packages every day in AUR.

It is still in community....
> pacman -Si skype
Repository : community
Name : skype
Version : 2.0.0.72-2

I'm not exactly sure what packages you are referring to besides the 3 or 4 we have dropped due to licensing issues (e.g. flashplayer, acroread). Even if we "drop" a package, the PKGBUILD almost always ends up in unsupported.

This was also discussed in aur-general, with the outcome the we have the license. http://archlinux.org/pipermail/aur-gene … 07984.html

I'm using yaourt and skype does not seem to be in community.. 10-15 packages doesn't seem to be on AUR. Earlier I was able to upgrade them using yaourt.. Now I can't... These why I've started this thread..

I think it would be useful if you could list them, so it's easier to discuss about them one by one, perhaps.

It seems I'll have to start reading that list as well

This is probably the same matter-antimatter flux anomaly that occasionally affects me.

I use skype all the time on my windows machines, is there any objection to asking skype to give us (who?) something in writing saying it's ok?

That has been done and it is in the community repo (i686) now
