Just referencing a post in the Off-topic board named 'Arch linux users united and using Jabber!' or something like that.
Anyway, we have created a Jabber room called archlinux@muc.jabber.org, and there are currently 8 people who have come forth with their JIDs. If you are interested please post your contact here. Mine is in the signature.
Cheers,
Zack

How to be part of the jabber community when not knowing how to configure jabberd. I tried, read the online document, no success. Is jabberd a server or client?

Jabberd is a Jabber server. To connect to the jabber network you need a client such as gaim. See www.jabber.org/user/userguide
Havn't got as far as configering a Jabber server; we are using a room on the Multi User Chat server at jabber.org. From what I hear, jabberd is quite easy to set up on Arch.
There is a guide at http://www.jabberdoc.org/AdminGuide.

Acctually I'm going to join this jabber community :-) but right now I'm testing different IMs and several Polish jabber servers - there were many changes in the last few days and I want to choose one or two most stable servers with transports for a few different protocols. So, I'll be back... 8-)

Does anyone go to the jabber chat room for arch anymore?

Slightly related: can somebody please change the phpBB code running this site to include a Jabber address field in the profiles? We have MSN, AIM, ICQ and all kinds of stuff, except Jabber. Bloody favoritism!

I'm maniel@[jabberpl.org, jabber.aster.pl] and I'm frequently sitting in [linux, arch]@chat.chrome.pl whith my buddies and speaking about Linux We speak Polish there and any Polish (and possibly English) speakers (or writers ) are invited:)
i don't like people saying that program doesn't work but printing on the console weird message like "bash: command_name: command not found" (it's real!!)
BTW, I'm using Jabber - the best IM protocol ever seen:)

What are the advantages of using jabber over any other im protocol?
Offline
Medicated: Jabber is an open standard, so if you support open source its a good thing to support. Further, unlike some others, it allows you to send messages to offline users. Also, you can easily set up your own jabber server on any system, rather than being constrained to one provided by some proprietary company. Lastly, Arch people use it, so you get lots of cool people to talk to. :-)

Would be nice if we had a official archlinux-jabber-chat-room. imho it`s better than irc ;-)

I agree that it'd be awesome if there was a general/international arch room powered by Jabber MUC(multi user chatroom). It's much nicer that irc imho. 8)
