What (kernel) flavour do you use?

Obviously, the reason for this poll is to find out how do the ArchLinux users prefer their kernel.

If you use a flavour, please specify which one (CK, MM, AA.. etc.) and why do you use it (what is it good for)? Which are the advantages and the disadvantages of each one?

I'd like to gather here as much information as possible about the "flavours", because I couldn't find something centralized anywhere on the net.

The users' experiences is always a good place to start.

Note:
1. kernel26mm from extra = stock kernel + flavour + default config
2. it doesn't matter if it's kernel26 or kernel24

Re: What (kernel) flavour do you use?

2.6.7-ck5 with custom config

I use kolivas' patches (good for desktop computers), some included patches:

- cfq io scheduler
- bootsplash
- supermount

Re: What (kernel) flavour do you use?

Stock Kernel + Flavour + custom config

Flavour: mm
custom config: no, i mean default config addapted for mm (the thing i plan do to for 2.6.8-mm1)

why mm?:
it does not panic or die when using swap heavily (>1.5gb) while computing for longtime (>2h)
(this compared to the 2.6 vanilla)

ck i don't know, but i would like to try a kernel26mmck soon

Re: What (kernel) flavour do you use?

Stock. Haven't been able to compile my own kernel, since I changed my PC, as every new kernel I compile complains about my hard drive (sata), even though I have the SATA option enabled. I've tried almost everything, but I just decided to quit.

Sorry, I wasn't aware you can run other kernel types on the Linux machines. This is new to me.

What are the advantages of the FreeBSD kernel?
Did you make a PKGBUILD for it?

I think there is (was?) a project to make Debian run on FreeBSD kernel...

Application of abstract techniques and utilities to solving a particular business problem is NOT a patentable idea. It is a fundamental concept of the IT industry.

You can't. You can just use a BSD distro.

There is. It's a distro that runs the FreeBSD kernel and has a gnu userland. It's very alpha/beta still though.

Re: What (kernel) flavour do you use?

Stock Kernel + Flavour + custom config for me:

Today I am on 2.6.8-rc4-mm1 with reiser4, a few sched patches and win4lin patched in.

Why? I always like to test the new kernels and give as much feedback as possible so they can fix as many bugs as possible before releasing vanilla kernels that the majority would use.

The patches I add are self explanatory.  big_smile

Now as soon as my computer is fixed I can stop messing around with my g/f's. She's getting a bit annoyed, lol.

Re: What (kernel) flavour do you use?

I prefer vanilla kernels from kernel.org and all custom .config files. I am not to big on modules or ck, mm type patches either. PLain straight vanilla with a nice custom .config smile

Re: What (kernel) flavour do you use?

I just decided to play around with some kernel configs this weekends, so I'm kinda in between kernels.  What kind of patchsets does everyone use.  Why do people use one patchset rather than another?
