New Laptop - New Problems - Help Please!

Hi everybody.

So, i bought a new shiny ACER ASPIRE 4520, that comes with Windows Vista default, the D2D recovery partition, and i wanna do the dual boot with ARCH.

So i download the new "Overlord" release, start the process, and bang!, WIFI doesnt get detected... After that i was wondering what would happen to the restore system if i overwrite the MBR, so stop the process, reboot, and then... google.

I found a couple of things to get the Atheros chip working, but nothing works, and found no answer for my question about the MBR and the D2D recovery system.

Here is the LSPCI:

Try blacklisting "ath5k" module and using madwifi driver instead.  Ath5k module must be blacklisted in order for madwifi to work.

In the install environment you should be able to just use "rmmod ath5k" to remove it and then "modprobe ath_pci" -- I think...

See post 29 in that thread: http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=50766&p=2
If that doesn't work then I've no idea what's wrong.

Re: New Laptop - New Problems - Help Please!

Try using lspci -nn instead, if you get an output like this, you don't have an ar5006eg, it is a ar5007eg and won't work with the madwifi package in the repository.

03:00.0 Ethernet controller [0200]: Atheros Communications, Inc. AR5006EG 802.11 b/g Wireless PCI Express Adapter [168c:001c] (rev 01)

You'll either need ndsiwrapper, or a patched madwifi build, like this one:
