Re: Recorder (1.4) - A simple GTK+ disc burner

Good idea, an interest feature for the next version.

I like it.

Send me a patch if you get it, or I will try myself.

Edit:

Maybe... something like that:

screenshot_2_972.png.xs.jpg

and... yes, there is no toolbar because in the next version you can hide toolbar and statusbar.

New version released. I hope you like it.

Robmaloy, finally I decide to put it in main window. I think is the best choice.

Re: Recorder (1.4) - A simple GTK+ disc burner

why, in the last version i can't burn anything?

i put the device as /dev/sr0, in the previous version it wasn't needed, so i think this is the right one, but if i try to burn a session as DVD VIDEO adding the folder /media/data_out/news down/MinamiKe Vol.1 -Fansubbed -unrealk/1/VIDEO_TS, when i click burn: ":-( unable to open64("-udf",O_RDONLY): No such file or directory"

If i try to burn a iso as DVD DATA: ":-( unable to open64("/media/data/comp/anime",O_RDONLY): No such file or directory"

a feature request: drag and drop files and folders from thunar smile

Re: Recorder (1.4) - A simple GTK+ disc burner

Please, write the command directly in a term and check if it works.

The command for DVD-Video is: growisofs -dvd-video -udf -Z /dev/sr0 /path/to/dvd
And for DVD-Data: growisofs -dvd-compat -Z /dev/sr0=image.iso

Just I discovered a mistake... I put two "-Z" on dvd-data... shit.
Please, test it and tell me. The drag and drop support is coming.

TIP: To know the possible devices, check "wodim -devices".

Re: Recorder (1.4) - A simple GTK+ disc burner

the "wodim -devices" command reports:
0  dev='/dev/scd0'    rwrw-- : 'BENQ' 'DVD DD DW1620'

just tried the command "growisofs -dvd-compat -Z /dev/sr0=image.iso" and it is burning the dvd all fine. Can't try the dvd-video, cuz already burned & deleted the stuff, but i think it should run fine too smile

edit:

by the way, maybe you can tell me, i have some iso files that i downloaded that come with a .mds file, do you know how to burn a image dvd with it? for what i've been reading those where probaly ripped with dvd shrink, and that this files contain some extra info to be able to burn a 1:1 copy from the original and info for the layer break. So i have a iso+mds that have 7GB so a DVD DL, is it safe to burn the dvd just with the iso or do i need to point with something that there is a mds file? I assume  it should be safe, but wanted some answer from an 'expert' tongue

Re: Recorder (1.4) - A simple GTK+ disc burner

I'm totally confused.

I have just burned a dvd data without problems.
For DVD-Video, I didn't test it, but I use the command provided by ArchWiki.
I will wait for more comments about this.

About the iso+mds...I'm sorry but I'm not your expert. I rarely burn something different than cd/dvd data.

Re: Recorder (1.4) - A simple GTK+ disc burner

The .po files (translations) are submitted by contributors non-relationated with the application.

I only update recorder.pot in each version to include all the new strings and make easy the translation process for contributors.

Nobody has experienced problems burning dvd-data?

The mds isn't needed unless your iso is split into 2 or more pieces, then it tells the burner how to put it back together.

Re: Recorder (1.4) - A simple GTK+ disc burner

I really think this app has some potential. But... While trying to burn a DVD-video I ran into some minor issues. The first was when I tried to add extra commands. Specifically a volume id.

-V DVD_NAME

The error return was..

( unable to open64("-udf",O_RDONLY)

So I looked through your code and for line 508

cmd = "growisofs -dvd-video -Z -udf -Z "+self.entry.get_text()+" "+self.dev+" "+self.filelist[0]+"/"

I swapped it around and came up with this

cmd = "growisofs -dvd-compat -Z "+self.dev+" "+self.entry.get_text()+" -dvd-video  "+self.filelist[0]+"/"

No more errors were encountered and the disk burned and played, but not optimally. Improper file permissions prevent it from 'autoplaying' on my computer and an older dvd player.
This needs to be done before the DVD-video is burned.

chown -R root:root AUDIO_TS VIDEO_TS
chmod 500 AUDIO_TS VIDEO_TS
chmod 400 VIDEO_TS/*

Also everything should be in uppercase before burning. Occasionally I backup dvds on a windows drive and everything ends up in lowercase. While I can manually convert everything, it would be nice if I didn't have to.

Thanks for a great app

Things for the next release: Drag and drop.

About change permissions of user directories.. I'm not sure if it is allowed. I prefer delegate this responsability to the user.

Re: Recorder (1.4) - A simple GTK+ disc burner

Considering what it takes to properly burn dvd-video is proper permissions and you choose to delegate that responsibilty to the user, why should anyone use this app? I might as well use a bash script or K3B. I'm so glad I could fix your dvd-video line for you.

Re: Recorder (1.4) - A simple GTK+ disc burner

I found a bug. When adding files, if it tries to add a file that is in a folder with a space, it does not find the file. This could be fixed by using " i think.

Re: Recorder (1.4) - A simple GTK+ disc burner

mmm... What is the error exactly and where happens?

I tried adding files from a directory with a space in the name, and the files were added ok.

Edit: granny6989, I have a couple of questions about dvd-video burning. (I never use it). The only method is to add the directory which contains AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS, isn't it? And, Does a project of dvd-video always contains the same structure? I'm thinking on do the permissions things.

Re: Recorder (1.4) - A simple GTK+ disc burner

You have to add them and try to burn them, you will get the error and it will fail to burn.

Re: Recorder (1.4) - A simple GTK+ disc burner

This is weird, I just tried with a CD Data, and It didn't fail.

recorderasdad172.png.xs.jpg

With this files, the ISO was created succesful and the output of cdrecord didn't show strange errors.

Can you paste me your output?

Thanks.

Everything seemed to be going fine burning a data DVD yesterday, then the same thing happened.

Re: Recorder (1.4) - A simple GTK+ disc burner

What a weird thing. One day works, another day fail.
I'm not sure what to do.

I have a version where I implemented support for mpg123 and oggdec (not obligatory dep, only used if they are on the system) to create wav files in cd audio mode automatically. If anyone are interested, I can released it.

Why ask if anyone is interested? Just do it!

Also, one place to get ideas from might be the OSX app 'Burn', it's rather good.

After read the wiki, a few points:
- Generally, the process is composed by three steps: make vcd/svcd with ffmpeg (not burn-related), vcdimager (intermediate and obligatory before burn), burn with cdrdao.
- I prefer not to add more dependencies to recorder. Especially like "ffmpeg".
- Major of the problems discussed on the Wiki aren't related to burn process.

So, I think that the best decision is add support for VCD and SVCD but not-including the first step (Conversion AVI->MPEG). This isn't difficult (add more categories and a few functions with the appropiate commands).

If this feature runs ok in a future, in other release I can add support for the only situation that affects vcdimager/cdrdao: "how do I make a single CD out of multiple VCD/SVCD files?".

I think that it can be a great feature for recorder. Thanks for the idea.

PD: It's summer and I'm on vacation. So version 1.3.4 may be delayed considerably cool.

--------

Edit: Many thanks for all the votes on AUR. The last time I visit AUR, recorder had 30-35 votes and now 60!

Re: Recorder (1.4) - A simple GTK+ disc burner

No problem, take your time. I agree about leaving the ffmpeg steps to another app. Perhaps a nod in the manpage to a guide on what to do, but don't bundle it. Hope you're enjoying your vacation!
