it seems that you have simular problems as this post http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=50047

I have similar problem with my intel8x0. Try this code - alsactl restore

I had the same problem with the same soundcard. Strange thing is that everything worked when I went to bed but when I woke up it didn't quite work anymore. I mean! Stuff like that cannot happen.
I solved it quite loose-heartedly by running
#alsactl restore
alsactl: load_state:1559: Cannot open /etc/asound.state for reading: No such file or directory
# touch /etc/asound.state
# alsactl restore
No state is present for card CK804
# /etc/rc.d/alsa restart
And then toggling off some mutes using alsamixer... Anyone knows how this error could have originated?

Okeh, no cross-posting, but it seems I have the same probleem as well http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=50174.
@MoxJet: your solution doesn't work for me.
My card:
00:02.7 Multimedia audio controller: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] AC'97 Sound Controller (rev a0)

I solved this problem for me!:)
I didn't have sound after each rebooting, just alsactl restore helps me.
Just put alsa to DAEMONS section in /etc/rc.conf :
# -----------------------------------------------------------------------
# DAEMONS
# -----------------------------------------------------------------------
#
# Daemons to start at boot-up (in this order)
# - prefix a daemon with a ! to disable it
# - prefix a daemon with a @ to start it up in the background
#
DAEMONS=(alsa syslog-ng network netfs crond)

Sorry for replying to a slightly old thread but I thought it would be helpful especially for people who would search for a solution.
Try muting the "External Amplifier" in alsamixer or amixer (in alsamixer, it is to the far right) as per the following instructions:
http://alsa.opensrc.org/index.php/Intel … _others.29
I did it and that made it work for my set up.
I have added this instructions to the Wiki: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/ALSA
