C compiler cannot create executables - (Yes, base-devel is installed)

With yaourt, I keep running into this problem. I am thus unable to build smartdimmer, kpowersave, etc...

I have the CC variable set to gcc, and everything SHOULD be working. I tried downloading the smartdimmer tarball, and lo and behold it worked when I ./configure and make the old fashioned way. It installed, however smartdimmer and my geforce go 6000 aren't playing nice and working together...

That said, is this a bug with ABS, yaourt, or do I have something setup wrong? Whatever the case, this needs to be fixed.

I have heard that some packages need patches for gcc 4.3, which I do use, but why would the build not work with a PKGBUILD, but then work when manually installed?

Paradoxes, paradoxes...help?

Just a long shot: don't you have /tmp partition mounted with noexec flag/option on?
