Firefox 3 Theme

I have gathered that FF3 beta (mine is branded s Minefield) takes themes from GTK, what I want to do, is to get it looking like it does on Windows, or Ubuntu (8.04 comes with FF3).
It obviously doesnt get the theme from GTK on Windows, but it looks exactly the same on Ubuntu.

So, how does Ubuntu get FF3 looking nice?

Re: Firefox 3 Theme

You can still use themes to get it how you want.

Your FF3 would look the same as ubuntu if you used the human theme and iconset.

Re: Firefox 3 Theme

I'm unsure if it gets the theme from GTK in Ubuntu, as it has the default FF3 icons you see in Windows.

Re: Firefox 3 Theme

On my ubuntu it used the GTK icon theme...
And FF3 on windows looks completely different, with the new keyhole icon
There's an ubuntu theme on the firefox addons and themes site which you could use

Re: Firefox 3 Theme

Exactly. The default theme looks like a sad, f*cking dog. Except noone here knows how to fix it. I'm trying to figure out how to make it look normal (not shit like it is by default on arch) . This is how it SHOULD look after installation (from http://mozillalinks.org/wp/2008/01/fire … -progress/ )
screenshot-hi-ready-to-register-with-ebay-minefield.png
screenshot-open-file.png

But for some reason, this is how it is:

I, and the others would really appreciate if someone reading this that knows how to make firefox under arch linux look normal, please tell us how !

Re: Firefox 3 Theme

Well the picture in the last post looks like firefox 2.  To upgrade to firefox 3  type pacman -Syu(this will update the whole system).  If that doesn't upgrade firefox type pacman -S firefox and firefox 3 should be installed.

Also Ubuntu uses the gtk theme for firefox just like arch does.  From what I've seen i don't even think there is a theme that even mimics the windows look for firefox 3 in linux.

That IS firefox 3, just swiftfox version.

I did ask 'how' to make it look like it does in ubuntu, but still noone has the slightest clue how this is done.

Am I the only person in the world who actually does not want my browser to look like my dog shit it out ? Has not anybody else fixed it yet ? mad

Re: Firefox 3 Theme

It looks like you haven't set your GTK theme properly. How do other GTK apps look (ie. nautilus) ? If those apps also look like a dog shit it out / sad f*cking dog, then you need to set your GTK theme. Use gnome-appearance-properties, or the switch2 app in the gtk-theme-switch2 package.

Re: Firefox 3 Theme

Looks to me like the theme is either not set correctly, or you don't have the required gtk engine installed.

Re: Firefox 3 Theme

I use openbox and used 'gtk-chtheme' to set the theme for gtk apps, works fine.  Firefox looks like you want.

Re: Firefox 3 Theme

All that I have is

a64 ~ $ gtk
gtk-builder-convert      gtkdoc-depscan           gtkdoc-rebase
gtk-config               gtkdoc-fixxref           gtkdoc-scan
gtk-demo                 gtkdoc-mkdb              gtkdoc-scangobj
gtk-query-immodules-2.0  gtkdoc-mkhtml            gtkdoc-scanobj
gtk-update-icon-cache    gtkdoc-mkman             gtkdocize
gtkdoc-check             gtkdoc-mktmpl

Which one do I launch to fix  ? All those programs you ppl mentioned above, are not on my default arch installation, nor did you mention the pacman package required to get them. Just help me out a little more

See?
Just read a bit more carefully, install that and $(your-favorite-gtk-theme)

Re: Firefox 3 Theme

This is really annoying me. You fosstards are acting like this on purpose. Just fucking tell me what to type in to install the fucking theme already. this is really pissing me off, the typical linux elitist behaviour why don't you actually give some real help instead of making me search around, since I don't know what i'm fucking looking for in the first place ? ever think of that ? no of course not, you ppl know everything and you expect everyone else to just get it. fuck you for that. i hate this, it's the same thing over and over in almost every linux forum.

so far i did
sudo pacman -S gtk-chtheme
which installed the theme choosing app.

but I've tried doing pacman -Ss tango and installed the icons but they don't show up in the gtk-chtheme app. what gives ? oh yes, and an obvious google search returns no useful info to point me in the right direction.

Calm down.

sudo pacman -S gtk2-themes-collection
sudo pacman -S gnome-icon-theme

Now run gtk-chtheme (or whatever you're using to change your GTK2 settings) and pick the theme you like best and change your icon theme to "gnome" which should also be there.

You may also want to install some GTK engines (which provide more themes, too);

sudo pacman -S gtk-engines

Also, you may find the tango-generator package in the AUR useful if you don't like the gnome icon theme.

Wow, best reply yet - and it's from someone who does not act like a 'linux user'.

I'm well aware of forum etiquette, but when ppl are acting like linux users, that calls for drastic measures.

Now, back to your suggestions.

sudo pacman -S gtk2-themes-collection
this did not give me tango incon theme to choose from in gtk-chtheme.

sudo pacman -S gnome-icon-theme
this did not give me tango incon theme to choose from in gtk-chtheme.

sudo pacman -S gtk-engines
this gave me some more themes.

yaourt -S tango-icon-theme-cvs
this wasted lots of time, did a bunch of things, but did not give me a tango theme to choose from in the theme switcher.

yaourt -S tango-generator
this did not give me any more themes, and I still don't have tango theme to choose from in the theme switcher.

pcpfgysuyi33nh3zky5i.jpg

So we still need to get the tango theme installed, so we can make FF3 actually look like it was desinged to.

I would like some more help from you Pnevma, if possible and thank you for being normal and actually answering the questions.

sudo pacman -S lxappearance
sudo pacman -Rsn gtk-chtheme
lxappearance

There should be an icon tab in the window that pops up.

Wow, I think we have a winner lol ! That worked. But now, I have one last question. Let's say I just did a fresh arch linux install, and I want firefox 3 theme to look like it was supposed to. What are all the things I need to install ? I'm confused about this because there were so many above, I know some of them that I need, except there are others I'm not sure that I need or not. Thank you

You'd probably want gtk2-themes-collection, gnome-icon-theme, tango-icon-theme and lxappearance.

Re: Firefox 3 Theme

To clarify, the reason that the tango icon theme didn't show up in gtk-chtheme is because, it's not a theme, it's a set of icons. gtk-chtheme only lets you select a theme.

lxappearance does let you select your icons, so if you want a GUI, it's a bit better.

Btw, defining your icon theme manually can be done in your .gtkrc-2.0 or .gtkrc.mine files, with a line like this

gtk-icon-theme-name ="Tango"

San, Linux fosstard

Re: Firefox 3 Theme

amdarch64, I don't think you'll find Arch very suitable for your needs in the long run. Arch Linux is a distro for people who enjoy studying, tinkering, and the cycle of breaking, fixing, and improving things.

Over time, Arch users have a tendency to learn to read documentation and source code, to search google, the wiki, and the forum, and when those resources fail, which isn't often, they generally tend to be polite and acknowledge that every line of code written for arch, every question answered, and every bug closed is done by volunteers kind enough to contribute time to the distribution.

People that don't fit this description tend to get tired of Arch quite quickly. Arch will not change to suit you; this has been proven time and again. Your options are to accept Arch as it is or find a different OS that does suit you.

Until you have paid them a great deal of money or contributed a lot of patches, you have no right to demand help or features from anyone. Respectfully requesting will get you impressive free help a lot of the time, but name-calling and expletives will get you a reputation of being unreasonable and people will very soon not bother to read or respond to your queries or demands at all.
