Correct Color Scheme?

What "colors" should you be using for a "desktop" system?

I'm using 256 right now and it seems as though things aren't finished coloring in - like the pidgin icon for example, is only like 3/4 green, it fails to draw the shaded part in the bottom hemisphere of it.

Lots of other various color problems too, like the shading/shadowing in google.  I don't know where to change it, either, in the setup I chose it in the xorg setup, I believe, so would that mean it's under my xorg.conf file?  If so, what are the other possibilities I can put instead of 256?  or is 256 fine and the problem is someplace else?

PS:  I don't know how flash is supposed to run, or if its related to this problem, but flash runs like crap on mine (runs horrible colors at about 1-2 FPS).  It's 32-bit, firefox 3.0.

256 colors? Shouldn't you be using 16-bit or 32-bit?

I have no idea, that's why I'm here >.<

I forgot even where I changed/set it.  It might have been in the original xorg configuration.

Re: Correct Color Scheme?

in the screen section of /etc/X11/xorg.conf change the depth to 16 or 24

its also possible your video driver isn't configured. check the wiki for that.
