I have set OOO_FORCE_DESKTOP=gnome. Openoffice looks fine when I start it manually but If I open something in it from thunar by double clicking it OpenOffice will look like crap. Doesn't happen with nautilus for instance. What the hell could it be ?
The day Microsoft makes a product that doesn't suck, is the day they make a vacuum cleaner.

I guess I could say I fixed it somehow. Since /usr/bin/soffice is a script I just added export OOO_FORCE_DESKTOP=gnome there (at the beginning).
This is only valid 'till the next OpenOffice update but hey, it works.

Where did you set the flag? .xinitrc? /etc/rc.local?
