Re: Your logo font?

The typeface used for the "archlinux" text is Karat. The medium weight is available for personal use here:

http://www.rubicon.ca/samp_pg3.htm

The same page contains the full font package (including the bold weight used for the word "arch") for sale at $12 USD.

If you only require the official logo, SVG versions of it are in the 'archlinux-artwork' package.

Well, technically you don't have to pay for anything--only if you wish to use the exact font as seen in our logo. If you're asking whether you can get an illegal copy of the typeface then you're asking in the wrong place. There is a limited version available for free in the link I gave you above and you can download a scalable version of our logo for free as well. Identity and FOSS are apples and oranges. Many FOSS projects use trademarked identities that are not free for public use (it helps guarantee a unique image).

Regarding the theme, it's a mixed bag of sources really.  I'm responsible for the latest logo and colour scheme, but the overall layout was in place long before my time.

Edit: I almost forgot to mention that whether or not you purchase a copy of the Karat (or Kabel) typeface, you won't find a copy that includes the 'slash marks' on the 'a' and 'h' letters--those were hand-made.

Cheers

Re: Your logo font?

The forum theme is all CSS, minus just a wee bit of template hackery to get parts of the header.
So the theme is here: http://bbs.archlinux.org/style/Archer.css , and don't forget the imports at the top of it.

Re: Your logo font?

thanks
also its www.linux-forums.co.uk (its up on vbulletin but i have just changed the name servers so it may go down)
I'm trying to get a layout for my forum but from what i can tell to edit punbb's layout you need to know css?
if so is it possible for anyone to help me get mine sorted? im hoping to have it similar to this forums with two tier menu but to be honest im lacking in content to put on the menu, i will have a forum and hopefully a website with all the mirrors for the distro's to download (ill call it tuxpedia)
if anyone is willing to help me get it going please either reply here or add me on msn (cew27@violentvomit.net)

Re: Your logo font?

so for this forum's theme it is just a css? or are there other files?
would the creator/owner of this forum mind if i adopted the theme (changing logo, removing add and editing menu at the top of the page)?
if this is aright how would i go about doing so (i have a friend who can help me edit the css) but are there other html files i must edit?
thanks alot

Re: Your logo font?

I'm afraid you aren't running the same software as we are, so our php templates wouldn't do a whole lot for ya.  The Arch forums are running PunBB and you're using vBulletin--two separate software projects.  Your best bet is to look around at themes for vBulletin.

Also, just so you know--we're currently working toward a new layout/navigation system for the official Arch websites including this forum.  So, if you're hoping to copy our 'look' then be aware that it just might change by the time you get it working smile

Re: Your logo font?

And if you want the font for free... search the forums. I found some pretty good substitutes or fonts the same for free.

Re: Your logo font?

It's punbb, as far as I know, it's just the CSS.

You can get punbb itself on it's site.

Re: Your logo font?

Well I'm the admin, but you can fairly easily grab the necessary html to add to your header template from any page you load on the forums. If that's not possible for some reason, I can tar 'em up and send them to you.
