Ion and vertical frames

Hi there,

I'm either blind or drunk (both a possibility right now), but--how can I split a frame vertically in Ion2? If I hit mod+S, it always splits the frame horizontally.

Any hints / primers? I checked out the FAQ on the Ion home page as well as the wiki, but didn't find anything. Your help is much appreciated.

Re: Ion and vertical frames

Splitting frames depends on your keybindings. I'm not certain what the default keybindings are for ion, but mod+shift+S might be it. If not, you'll have to read through the keybindings file (in /etc/ion, I think) or find a default keybinding list in the documentation.

Re: Ion and vertical frames

Also, you might want to try wmi, it's like Ion: next generation. wink  It's not really any better except I find the keybinding configurations much more readable... you don't have to hunt through lua code. Some people like that it also has floating windows if you like, but I rarely use that anyway...

Re: Ion and vertical frames

dear canadian, it's very hard to see anything beating ion,
i fired up openbox earlier today and it was totally unusuable in comparison.

i havn't tried wmi yet, I think I wait for stable version.

Re: Ion and vertical frames

I'm bloody impressed by Ion, and I've just scratched the surface yet.
Embedding Lua could be seen like overkill but it's make you feel l33t when you get it right.  big_smile

Re: Ion and vertical frames

Ah, excellent. Going via mod+k did it. Thanks a bunch!

Ion really starts to grow on me, not only because it supports my dockapps properly. wink I gave WMI a shot, but I didn't like it too much--I'll have another go at it over the week-end.

I've always been a rather rodent-centered guy--first "real" computer being an Amiga and everything--but I have to admit that for pure working-speed / productivity, Ion beat Window Maker hands down for me. Only bummer is it can't really cope with GNUstep applications, which I use predominantly for utility tasks (terminal, file browsing etc.). Still, having only the bare minimum at your disposal feels almost liberating. wink
