Xubuntu thunar

Hi all,
I could successfully setup my Arch system with Xfce4, but there are somethings I miss from a previous go with Xubuntu which I can't figure how I can do them 'by hand':
1)The left panel in thunar doesn't contain all my drives. I don't think they are auto mounted, how can I work on them and add them to the panel in thunar ?
2)Non-Latin files and directory names do not show at all .. how can I work in them ? they're in Arabic
3)This's not about thunar .. but I don't know how I can add layout change button to the lower panel in Xfce4, I can add them in Gnome and KDE, but I can't figure how in Xfce4..

1) you need to either install the thunar-volman package or something like ivman (check out the wiki for ivman - it's rather nice)

2) I'm of absolutely no help here. I'm an en-US user...

3) I'm not quite sure what you mean here. What buttons are you referring too? Rather - what do they do?

1)Both 'thunar-volman' and 'ivman' are installed, but not working.. May be I have to do some work by hand ?
2)I'm not sure whether it has to do with LC_ALL or  /etc/fstab or anything else, they worked just out of the box in Xubuntu.., I'll keep looking..
3)I don't know how I can change the keyboard layout in Xfce4...

You could use the HAL daemon (I've never used ivman) and make sure it's running

sudo /etc/rc.d/hal start

and your user is in the groups needed for mounting devices. I think it's storage and optical.
Finally I think there's a setting in Thunar to "turn on automounting". Aren't using this setup atm, so I might be a bit off track.

Oh... and get rid of as much as possible in /etc/fstab (probably everything that's not plugged in all the time) as HAL gets a little "bu-hu" if somebody else is doing her job.

I don't know how I can use hal to auto mount my partitions, however, it's in the DEAMONS list in rc.conf..
The problem is not being able to auto mount my drives by /etc/fstab, but not able to add them to the left panel in thunar, or to be presice, I don't know how..
Another thing that I can't get around is that I can not view files and directories named in Non-Latin letters..
I added locale=en_USA.UTF-8 then rebooted, It gave me warning that it can't even set locale to this..
what should I do ?
(The reason I used en_USA.UTF-8 is that it works just great for me in Pardus GNU\Linux)

You should check /etc/locale.gen file and commment out the proper locales and then create them with /usr/sbin/locale-gen. It is en_US.UTF-8 that you seek.

and still I don't know how I can change the keyboard layout, and how I can add my drives to thunar side panel..

To change system default keyboard:
keyboard layouts are here ( /usr/share/kbd/keymaps/i386/qwerty/ ), if you have qwerty keyboard otherwise change the last directory to a proper one or even change the i386 directory, too. Put the desired one in /etc/rc.conf. Mine is KEYMAP='fi-latin9'

You can also change keymap in kde, gnome, etc, but google the proper way. I dont know as I only use that one always.

1)please search wiki about hal and xfce
2)also see fstab in wiki, but it's just one way to show name correctly. for cjk users it's better to patch the exo-mount
