is there a program or something using which I can roll back to a sytemstate at a paticular date, for instance if i take a snapsot after install, then after few months I want to go back to that state thus removing all the stuff i installed uninstalled config changes etc etc...
is there a way to do it?

it's somehow adventurous, but you can give it a try:
gibak -> http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=18318
i use it for my home directory only. it bases on git and it does what you want.

ps: of course, there is "dd". you can "dd" your whole / partition (that's actually what "norton ghost" does - you know the very expensive backup program). but i think gibak is more versatile.
