I am having some issues with bittorent. ie its going really slow. The max speed i get is around 20kb/s.
Ive tried several different clients, rtorrent, trnasmission, deluge etc and they are all the same.
I know its not my connection as on my windows box I have utorrent and it goes all the way up to 900-1000kb/s easily.
I have opened ports etc but that doesnt make a difference.
Help?
Cheers

A lot of ISPs these days are limiting usage of P2P networks like BitTorrent. Try switching to a different port (something between 30000-60000) in your BitTorrent client and see if that changes things.

I agree with kclive18. A lot of ISPs seem to be doing that. As you've observed on windows, uTorrent goes all that way upto 900-1000kb/s because uTorrent encrypts all incoming and outgoing traffic. AFAIK this prevents your ISP from analyzing that traffic data properly and tagging it as torrent traffic.
You might want to make sure your torrent client encrypts the traffic and ignores unencrypted peers. I am using transmission and have no issues with it but YMMV because of your ISP.
Good Luck and report back what you find.

I've found a client that works. Opera!
What a weird situation.
Thanks anyway
