Using the default firefox(minefield) from arch db. There is nothing listed under applications tab under pref. I cannot get external programs to open files like torrents or pdf files, etc.. I need a fix if possible.
I found some info from this thread - http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=46470
The reason why no applications are listed is because the arch build has gnome-vfs disabled.
Not sure if this is still the case, any ideas?

do you have gnome-vfs installed?

You need to install gnome-mime-data or some other package providing mime stuff
There shouldn't be any reason to learn more editor types than emacs or vi -- mg (1)

Try the mozilla bugtracker, this is Arch discussion

try installing mime-types

I can confirm this, with mime-types installed there are still no apps listed.
PrimoTurbo: does it work in other distros? If so, this is an Arch issue. If not, it's a Firefox bug.

Take a look at this bug report and discussion http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/10419
You need to install an RTFM interface.

Eww. That is very ugly. Why didn't they fix it before the release?

Yes it works on other distros like Ubuntu, it's something to do with Arch.

Installing mime-types, gnome-vfs, gnome-mime-data & gconf works. But only if you create a new profile. My old profile still has no entries and this is after I copied mimeTypes.rdf from new profile to old. Any ideas on what file I need to copy to get it listed?

Ugh. Reopen the bug report then... And maybe see if the MIME stuff can be handled without Gnome crap?
Edit: n/m I'll reopen the bug report.

I was able to fix the issue with the "proposed patch" from the mozilla bug report. With this patch the applications tab should work even if no gnome dependencies are installed.

Any news on whether this is fixed in 3.0.1?

It's not in 3.0.1. It will be fixed in 3.1, or so the bug report claims.

I just upgraded to 3.0.1 and it fixed for me. I don't know it is due to the packages I already installed but the list is there under old profile and all.
