:D Firefox+Java [Solved]

Hi,
I have been having problem with j2re and firefox. I installed j2re via pacman and it installed properly.  Whenever I go to a website such as game.yahoo.com and play online pool, or go to  http://www.graysonline.com.au/ I can see the java placeholder for a sec then firefox closes immediately.
I tried to search for solutions in groups.google.com but the solutions there doesnt work for me.

Thankx

Make sure you have the symbolic link set correctly.
I should be in your plugin's directory.
ln -sf /opt/j2re/plugin/i386/ns610-gcc32/libjavaplugin_oji.so libjavaplugin_oji.so

Yeap,
I've deleted and recreate the symlink under /opt/mozilla-plugins. Then I close and open firefox again, but it still crashes.

Re: :D Firefox+Java [Solved]

Java is broken in the 2.6.7-mm7 kernel.  I think there is a bit of a delay on the 2.6.8 kernel because of a problem with cd burning and nfs (nfs fixed already in 2.6.8.1).  The kernel mailing list has posts that show they know of the java problem in the -mm versions and hints that a fix has already made it into the 2.6.8-mm1 kernel (for java at least).

Hi, yes I'm runnning the 2.6.7 kernel, but I before I could play yahoo pool under firefox and other java websites, but now it seems it can't.
I dunno what happened, probably when I did a pacman -Syu before, which also broke my x server, but managed to fix it via the suggestions from this forum.

So there is no other workaround it except upgrading to 2.6.8.1?
I'm pretty sure there are a lot of ppl out there which has the same problem as moi.

Re: :D Firefox+Java [Solved]

I updated to the latest java j2re-1_4_2_05 (manually by just coping over the untared files) and I am runing the generic pacman kernel 2.6.7 kernel. I have no problem with the java and firefox. I have a HD install of AMLUG, Mozilla and firefox did crash on me at the beginning but re-installing them with pacman solved the problem.

Re: :D Firefox+Java [Solved]

I fixed it,
I was getting error about java1.3.xpi so i decided to cleanly uninstall firefox via pacman -R and deleted all traces of firefox. Then i did a pacman -Sy mozilla-firefox and it didnt give me anymore errors.

Dammit.
