Brand new install font problems

okay after installing my gnome gnome-extra and the ms core fonts i have noticed compared to my desktop and laptop is that the fonts seem abnormally big. I check the fonts tab in appearance and it is exactly teh same font and the same size but it looks more ugly and more spaceed out on the laptop. Is there anway that i can fix this?
