Right now I got a meeting and my arch box is failing with my home partition. When it try to get /home mounted I get this error: "Attempt to read block from filesystem resulted in short read while reading block XXXX". I had tired fsck, e2fsck, badblocks, but nothing, I get the same error and all my docs for this meeting is in there. Any help is welcome please?

if you are trying to boot your pc, then don't. throw in an install cd and mount the HD from within a live session. Then just copy over the data.
If the HD is failing there isn't much u can do about that now. No amount of software will fix a hardware failure.

When it gives you the error, it gives you the option to login as root with read-only partitions. Do so.
Then 'umount /home', assumign /home is where the error is.
Then 'fsck /dev/sdxx'. When it gets to an error, ignore it and then force a rewrite.
When it's all done reboot.
My computer did the same thing to me a few days ago and this fixed the problem.
