KDEmod question - SOLVED

Since I cant get to the kdemod website for one reason or another, I installed KDEmod (KDE3) over vanilla KDE (KDE3).  Is this an OK thing to do?  Wasn't sure if I should uninstalled vanilla KDE first or not.

Re: KDEmod question - SOLVED

From the KDEMod website:

Get KDEmod - Step 1

Remove your existing KDE and Qt3 installation with

pacman -Rd package

as KDEmod conflicts with KDE from the official repos. You can check which KDE packages are already installed by entering

pacman -Q | grep kde

Be sure to remove them all, and also your Qt3 installation. You do not need to remove any other KDE based apps like Amarok or KTorrent for example...
This procedure is completey safe, and you do not need to backup or modify your existing KDE settings. If you install all packages you used before from KDEmod, everything will be good and you will not notice a difference. Even our theme only gets installed if there are no existing KDE settings in your home directory.
Get KDEmod - Step 2

Choose a KDEmod mirror
Get KDEmod - Step 3

Add the KDEmod repo to your /etc/pacman.conf by adding this entry for 32bit Arch:
[kdemod]
Server = http://mirrors.igprolin-online.org/pub/ … rrent/i686

or the following for 64bit Arch:

[kdemod]
Server = http://mirrors.igprolin-online.org/pub/ … ent/x86_64

Get KDEmod - Step 4

Update your package database with pacman -Sy. Now you can choose between four package sets:

pacman -S kdemod
A light base system with our theme, containing everything necessary for a good start
(Installed size ~310MB)

pacman -S kdemod-complete
Full KDEmod installation
(Installed size ~600MB)

pacman -S kdemod-vanilla
Full standard KDE installation
(Installed size ~600MB)

pacman -S kdemod-base
a barebone standard KDE installation
(Installed size ~160MB)
Get KDEmod - Step 5

Install your localization and any extra stuff. Simply do a

pacman -Ss kdemod-kde-i18n

to see a list of all available localizations and install yours afterwards.

To see everything that is available in our repo, just do

pacman -Sl kdemod

You can also install complete KDE modules, so if you want to install the whole kdepim suite, just do

pacman -S kdemod-kdepim

This works with every KDE module, e.g. kdetoys, kdegames et cetera, you get it...

Excellent!  Thank you, neighbor.
