ncmpc lets you browse music folders using only up, down, enter and space. There's probably a way to get that to work with a remote?

I guess that will work.
Would love to have a mpd client that looked like coverflow in itunes =/

I just set up something of the sort -- it doesn't support browsing the folders (yet) or coverflow , but I can do pretty much anything I need within the current playlist (play/pause/stop/next/previous/seek/volume/mute), I think it should also be pretty simple to set up the 0-9 keys on the remote to select predefined playlists. I'm using an old IrDA remote that came with a "media-center" computer I bought years ago. By the way, from what I've read about it mpdlirc is not really necessary for anything, I can do everything it can do with a combination of irexec (provided by lirc-utils package) and mpc.
