Same problem here:
Acer aspire 1360
00:11.5 Multimedia audio controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT8233/A/8235/8237 AC97 Audio Controller (rev 50)
Strange, it's with a VIA soundcart
I just have it recently and only with the multimedia keys, if I use my mouse, everything works fine.

It's probably upstream, i.e. Arch devs can't do anything.

oi! i hope it's solved soon.

Try setting the channel to something else. Or if you're using Intel HDA, try messing around with the model option (e.g. model=acer for Acer laptops) in modprobe.conf.

Same problem here. None of the workarounds posted in this thread worked.
00:1e.2 Multimedia audio controller: Intel Corporation 82801FB/FBM/FR/FW/FRW (ICH6 Family) AC'97 Audio Controller (rev 03)

Are you sure you got the model right? What sort of machine are you using?

Hey, I'm experiencing the same problem when using my Thinkpad Volume Control Buttons. I hope someone will fix this soon, the tips presented here didn't help.
My sound card:

I'm suffering from this problem also!

Are you guys all getting actual volume jumps, or is it just the display that's jumping about?

I am getting actual volume jumps, what makes the bug even worse
Offline
Yup, it really affects the volume, not just the display.

Oh... Then this is not the problem I've been having.
Again, try changing the channel you're using to adjust the volume. If nothing else works, PCM should.

Even if I choose PCM in the volume control applet strange things happen:
When I set the volume to zero, it gets muted and not unmuted when I increase the volume again. And the left channel begins jumping when moving...
I guess this is more a problem of alsa (because the bug occurs with hardware buttons *and* with changing it in the volume control by mouse), but I don't know how to debug this?!
Any help is appreciated..

Same problem with a Dell Inspiron laptop (Intel card) ...

Yep, same problem here .... Everything works fine when using alsamixer or amixer though
But it's really annoying, I switched to Xfce and/or Openbox because of this bug, coming back to gnome from time to time, when there are packages updates
In the end, where does this bug come from ? Gnome ? Alsa ? GStreamer ? I'm getting a bit lost

Patch at the bottom works for me. Give it a try.

Finally. The patch works!
Thanks krims0n for the info!
I created a new PKGBUILD for gstreamer0.10-base-plugins: http://disposed.de/gstreamer0.10-base-p … tch.tar.gz
And a pre-compiled binary for i686: http://disposed.de/gstreamer0.10-base-p … pkg.tar.gz
Everything works for me now.

Yes, this patch made it, thanks for the binary packages.
I hope that this will go into the official package soon!
Offline
Thanks. Applied the patch and compiled using the PKGBUILD from ABS. Works fine now! This has been very annoying for quite sometime. I'm relieved now!
