Hi,
I've decided to switch from Openbox to Compiz (standalone). I've done what is said in the wiki, and when I launch compiz-manager I see this :
Checking for Xgl: not present.
Detected PCI ID for VGA: 01:00.0 0300: 10de:0407 (rev a1) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])
Checking for texture_from_pixmap: present.
Checking for non power of two support: present.
Checking for Composite extension: present.
Comparing resolution (1440x900) to maximum 3D texture size (8192): Passed.
Checking for nVidia: present.
Checking for FBConfig: present.
Checking for Xgl: not present.
And then X exits (awkward )
I have a GeForce 8600GT mobile with the nvidia driver.
Here is my xorg.conf
What did I miss ?

Your Xorg.conf link is broken.
The error says that it is looking for Xgl but can't find it. I can't check to see if you did but I would think that you didn't activate it.
There is a wiki tutorial for setting up Xgl on nvidia graphics cards.
For general knowledge:
http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Composite
Compiz-fusion:
http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Compiz_Fusion
Xgl:
http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xgl
nvidia:
http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/NVIDIA
In the composite page there is a console command that you can use if you have the propietary nvidia driver. the command says that it will autoconfig Xorg to run Xgl for you.
I personally use Aiglx with compiz-fusion (on top of gnome) but I don't know if nvidia supports Aiglx. (I have an Ati card) I configured my Xorg.conf using the ati propietary driver's autoconfig command. The ati propietary driver starts Aiglx by default unless you tell it other-wise so I was set.
There are also other tuts floating around the internets for nvidia Xgl.
Hope this helps and good luck.

Thanks four your help. I fixed the xorg.conf link.
I've red that I don't need to install Xgl with the nvidia driver. I just have to enable GLX Visuals and Composite in Xorg. For that I think my xorg.conf is ok.
The problem is that i already did what you said, but it still crash my X
Any idea ?

What is that "RENDER" option for towards the end? That's the only thing that looks suspicious to me...

I don't remember Probably an old hack not usefull anymore. Anyway, I removed it and it didn't change a thing.
Also, I did a " compiz --replace gconf 2> compiz.log" and I got this error message :
XIO: fatal IO error 4 (Interrupted system call) on X server ":0.0"
after 136 requests (134 known processed) with 0 events remaining.
This explains why X crash. But it's still not very speaking...

I just start compiz using fusion-icon... I don't know if this is what you looked at in the wiki, but I added this section yesterday -- this is basically a skeleton of what I use to start the compiz-fusion session. This method should work as long as the xorg.conf is correct -- I've tried this with both the stable and git versions of compiz.

But still, when I try to replace Openbox by Compiz -> crash !
Problem partly solved.
I don't know if this is what you're looking for, but if you start the compiz-fusion session first you can then use the options provided by the fusion-icon right-click ("select window manager") and switch between compiz-fusion and openbox without leaving my session. Pretty cool
