[Solved] Color problem with screens saver and gnome system monitor

I'm not sure when this happened, but lately the gnome screensaver and system monitor have the colors mixed up.  I use the cosmos screensaver (pictures of planets), and all the planets have odd colors.  For example earth is brown and white (instead of blue).

The other program affected is gnome-system monitor.  The color of the icons in the process list isn't right (like the fusion icon is orange, firefox is brown, nautilus is blue).  Also the color of the gtk components in the system monitor is a different shade of green (the windows on the right is how it should be).  I have an ati card and I'm currently using the 8.4 driver.  I have tried the 8.5 and 8.6 driver, and nothing helps.  I'm not really sure if this is a gnome, gtk, xorg, ati, or an app problem.  Another thing that may help, is when compiz without metacity is running, the problems disappear.  It only happens to these applications.

Could you please post a larger version of that screenshot?  Thanks.

Also, try running the gnome system monitor from terminal (not sure what the command is...) and see what output you get.

Re: [Solved] Color problem with screens saver and gnome system monitor

There is no output from the terminal and no command line options for the command.

The screen corruption on the right side of the gnome-system-manager and by the pull-down-menu "monitor" is not a screen-shot issue, it actually looks like that.

Re: [Solved] Color problem with screens saver and gnome system monitor

The problem lies with the catalyst driver.  I tried using the radeon driver, and I don't get this issue.  Something ati did in the latest couple catalyst revisions must have caused this.  Specifically, it lies with the DRI system.  So the options are either use radeon drivers or the catalyst driver without acceleration.  I've tried the 8.7 driver and the corruption in gnome-system-monitor is much more sever (while using dri).
