Hello,
What is the best FTP package? I'm looking for a linux equivalent of SmartFTP which can handle loads of multiple connections and remember login details etc. Needs to have all the advanced features. Everything I've tried so far has been too basic and missing features.
Thanks.

What about filezilla?

It would help to know what you have tested so far.

gFTP is a nice gui client

+1 for FileZilla. I used gFTP before FileZilla got ported to Linux, but haven't looked back since.

I have used both gftp and filezilla. filezilla is the best but still too basic.

If you fancy a ncurses alternative, try ncftp.

Another vote for filezilla.. it's always worked for me.
I'm a block of code, and I approve this message.

Too basic how? It handles multiple connections and can remember site details. What other requirements do you have?

Umm, making breakfast ? Or at least coffee damn it. What kind of software doesn't do that ?

I expect my FTP software to automatically download the latest build of Arch Linux when it is released whilst reading out the change log in a deep south accent. It should then burn 10 copies and print mailing labels. Finally, it should make a post in this thread. Is this possible in Linux or will I have to revert to using Windows for that? It's not exactly very complicated...I can achieve this with a few clicks in Windows.
But yeah, I could never get FileZilla to open more than 2 connections at once nor get it to save login details.

I will add kftpgrabber to this post.
Filezilla is great too. Gftp is fine if your use gtk environnement.

Both filezilla and gftp are great programs. The support what you would expect from a "modern" ftp-client these days i guess, althought in my experience, gftp sometimes tend to be a little less stable.

If the server allows it, it can open 10 at once. It also saves logins, that is what the "Site Manager" is for.
The only issue I have with gFTP is that it is unable to handle certain types of encryption, so I use Filezilla.
