bad flash performans

Why is the flash performance so bad? Or is it just me? I had pclinuxos on my machine before I've gone the arch way, and there the flash was muuuch better. It ran smoothly on most sites with normal video quality (not HD). But on arch the flash is horrible. It's starting to bug me alot, because every time I go to a page with a bigger video or open a few pages with flash banner's, flash takes over 80% of my cpu power. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to disrespect someone, but this is a big problem for me (and my friend who's on arch to), and I think it should be fixed. Is there something I can do to optimize flash?

Re: bad flash performans

I'm running Flash 10 beta 2 and it seems to be performing very well. A youtube size video is averaging around 8% CPU usage with this build with minimal amount of memory. In fact, this is the best CPU and memory usage I've ever seen with Flash.

For 32 bit: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=16993
For 64 bit: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=18302 (you'll need nspluginwrapper for this one)

how is that even possible?
the flash plugin is what is ruining my summer:
30-40% of a athlon 2400+ when viewing youtube
inexorably crashing(=opera unresponsive for a minute or more) when opening 2 videos or more

I'm using the flash 10 beta2 as  well.

It probably has something to do with my processor. This box is an AMD 6400+ which runs at 3200Mhz per core. It's fast. Either that or top is lying. I could hardly believe it myself, so I watched the output for over two minutes. It would peak around 11% and drop sometimes as low as 6%.

I just installed 64 bit arch and the flash 9 plugin. It works, but it still uses a lot of my processor power (60% on youtube vids). I would like to try flash 10, but how do I install it? Is it safe to install it over flash 9?

It should upgrade the package just like any other package. Another way is to download the tarball from Adobe, unpack it, and simply copy libflashplayer.so over /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/libflashplayer.so.
