If you look at my screen shot above, you'll notice a gray box behind each system tray icon. Is there a way to fix this? It's really annoying to look at and makes some icons hard to see.

Its not a bug in KDE, but rather the "new stuff" they are using...
AFAIK there are several reasons:
- Plasma uses ARGB, which triggers a lot of bugs in drivers and/or is not supported properly yet. Not because it wasnt there before, but because plasma is actually one of the first apps that uses this stuff extensively
- The freedesktop sytray spec is not really mature
IIRC this will be fixed with 4.3 at the latest, so stay tuned
want a modular and tweaked KDE for arch? try kdemod
