[SOLVED ]No network connection: Net: ppp_generic r8169 slhc

This is my first time trying arch linux

I've installed the distro. I logged in as root and tried to issue the command pacman -Sy but there is no network connection.

$ lspci | grep Ethernet
04:00.6 Ethernet Controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8111,8169B PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet Controller (rev 01)
$ dmesg | grep Ethernet
r8169 Gigabit Ethernet driver 2.2CK loaded

From the wiki, I tried this,

$ hwdetect --show-net
NET: ppp_generic r8169 slhc
$ modprobe ppp_generic r8169 slhc

Then I restart it

$ /etc/rc.d/network restart

Still I do not have network connection.

Here is my /etc/rc.conf file

I've enabled wake-on-lan after shutdown in windows. Is there anything else that I missed?

Welcome to the forums!

See my thread with the same problem here:

http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=51399

Realtek released a new driver yesterday that will compile easily on Arch and get you up and running:

Re: [SOLVED ]No network connection: Net: ppp_generic r8169 slhc

realtek has released a newer driver. I copied it to /usr/src and extracted it. I followed the instruction given in the readme file and typed $ make clean modules. However, I ran across errors.

Where did I go wrong?

Re: [SOLVED ]No network connection: Net: ppp_generic r8169 slhc

Something strange is going on, because now the link to the driver is showing the older driver that would not compile on Arch, and the driver date is showing yesterday.

It appears that they may have pulled the 8.007.00 driver that was posted on July 17th, and put the older driver back up.  Not sure why they may have done that, but I was never able to get the 006 driver to compile at all, and apparently lots of others weren't either.

Maybe they'll repost the new driver in the next day, or two.

In the mean time, can you send me the 8.007.00 driver to me?

Re: [SOLVED ]No network connection: Net: ppp_generic r8169 slhc

Sorry, but I've already dumped the 8.007.00 driver in favor of the one that's in the new kernel (2.6.26) that was just put into the testing repo earlier today.  They've apparently patched the r8169 driver so that that the 8111c Realtek controllers work properly with it.

I had to install the new kernel and new nvdia drivers but both are working perfectly and now the 8111c controllers are working as well.

Good luck with it.
