cant watch .flv vids (even with VLC)

I re-installed VLC as a desperate attempt to be able to watch some movies I've got in flash format. Anybody know what the trouble might be? When i double click on the movie, it opens VLC which does nothing.

fire vlc up in a term, maybe more info would help....
