Hashing out the offending lines in xorg.conf allows X to start. Why will it not accept this config. This is a fresh install and I'm pretty sure I had those lines before but with the i810 driver thoug. My understanding is the intel driver is newer and the one to be used?

it will be more usefull if you put all xorg.conf. you have a problem in the Screen section

See above. The problem only occurs when I add the "Extensions" section.

Looking at it now I think I can see my problem. I pasted the Extensions section before the Screen End Section. Duh!
Ok, X starts fine now. Wonder how one can be so blind at times.
