Booting from HDD attached to SATA card

I've attached a PCI SATA card to my board in order to install Arch to an 80Gb SATA drive. Linux detects the drive fine, and I can install to it, but the BIOS doesn't seem to register it in order to boot. Adding a new entry to the existing IDE's grub telling it to boot from sdb1 didn't work either, returning an error that the drive cannot be found. Alas. The board is a Gigabyte GA-7DXE, rev. 2.0.

Any ideas how I might still make this work? For now I'll update the BIOS and see whether that helps at all, though the updates list doesn't say anything about SATA support so I don't hold a lot of hope for that approach.
