[SOLVED] numlockx on kde4

I used to add "numlockx on" to /opt/kde/share/config/kdm/Xsetup in order to turn on the numlock when running KDE 3.5. Now that I have upgraded to KDE 4.1, I cannot seem to find the Xsetup file; does anyone know where it is or a better way to turn on numlockx whenever the computer boots?

Ah; there's a setting built into KDE4 for it. Nifty...

Re: [SOLVED] numlockx on kde4

On second thought... the built-in numlock option in KDE 4 seems a little flaky (it turns on but the light won't come on and if you push the actual button, the light comes on and KDE turns the numlock off). Is there a way to use numlockx on in KDE 4? Some script like the old Xsetup which runs whenever kdm runs?

Re: [SOLVED] numlockx on kde4

I also tried the ~/.kde/Autostart/numlockx script,

#!/bin/sh
numlockx on

And then chmod +x ~/.kde/Autostart/numlockx. With that, the light doesn't turn on and the actual numlock doesn't work. Has anyone gotten this to work on KDE4?

I'm not on KDE so I can't check myself, but do you have to tell KDE to run scripts in Autostart? Double-check the settings and make sure that the script gets run (maybe add a line like this: echo "yep, it works" >~/kde.test)

Also, not sure why it would make a difference, but I have "numlockx &" in my .xinitrc.

Sorry, that's all I can think off. I had a bad enough experience with KDE4 when I tried Kubuntu that I've suppressed any memory of it (the numlock was flaky for me too, although I think I managed to get it working after googling... not sure though, since I only had Kubuntu bloatware for about 4 days before purging it and discovering Arch).

Re: [SOLVED] numlockx on kde4

.xinitrc and making the script bootable in the System Settings did not work. However, I found that making /usr/bin/numlockx on run at startup through the System Settings did work. Yeah; you did what I did. I used KDE4 for about half a day until I switched back to GNOME. But I read a lot of good things online about KDE 4.1 and am trying it out now on Arch64 and must say I am extremely impressed so far. Things seem really stable, much faster, and much more easy to look at than any other window/desktop manager imo.
