My USB drive becomes "read only"

Hi. I'm using a USB hdd formated as fat32.
And I have a problem. I have a problem with it. When I was downloading a file with transmission the file stopped and the status said: "premission denied".
So I checked my drive and it's file format was "read only" for some reasong. It worked before.
So I formated it and continued my download. And after a few days it became "read only" again.
And the folder icons gets a lock symbol.

I've tried chmod 777 @ the disk but it didn't help.
And it seems that transmission works if I run it as root.
Using thunar as filemanager and under premission it says that I as user have read&write premission.
root&others have read only. And when I try to change premission with thunar (tried as user and root)
it simply returns to read only for others.

I had this problem in both fluxbox&xfce.

The disk contains 24524 files and 211.9 of 232.6 gigs are used.

Any ideas?

[EDIT]
Happend i kubuntu with kde 3.5.9 to :S must be a hardware problem.
