i believe it should be displaying 1440x900 and 16bit color. I tried using the intel and i810 drivers (intel integrated video) but could not get video to display with them. Vesa should work just fine for what I want to do. I have also tried usig 915resolution to set the resolution manualy but nohting has worked so far. I was wondering what is my next step to debug this issue.

Re: Xorg only displaying 640x480

I dont think it will be possible to get the resolution you want whit the vesa drivers, as far as i know it only supports up to 1024x768 . So you need to get the appropriet driver for you card. What intel chip do you have on your computer and did you try following the wiki guide?

Re: Xorg only displaying 640x480

My hardware mobo/integrated video is an intel 82845g/gl from

lspci |grep -i vga

I installed the xf86-video-intel and modified the driver settings in xorg but all i get is a blank screen. Then it says

Ring end
space:24 wanted 32

Fatal server error:
lockup

Is there something wrong with the intel driver?

Re: Xorg only displaying 640x480

Try to play wiht the color depth

I have an i810 here that works fine on 15 bit and dies on 16 bit and shows digital snow on 24 bit. The setting is in section screen

You need modelines for widescreen resolution

Search the inet for a modeline and insert it in section monior. Then refer to it by name (the part in " ") from section screen
