Control media player (e.g. mesk) as another user

Supposedly, you have to run "mesk --play" in the same dbus session as "mesk" is started already. This is not specific to only this application, but pretty much every other media player that uses dbus as a means to be controlled from the command line like this (i.e. rhythmbox, exaile, banshee etc)
Setting the original user using "su -u" or "sudo -u" isn't enough. Any tips or tricks you know of?
